The Birge Mansion
The stately Birge Mansion still shows up well, 120 years after it was built. On a fine spring afternoon, the Birge looks out over Symphony Circle towards Klienhan's Music Hall. Truth be told, the mansion had a serious episode of decline, peaking in, you guessed it, the wonderful 70's. The faded beauty was ready for demolition but thankfully was rescued and restored in an effort that spanned well over a decade. If you have a chance to stroll the walk on Symphony Circle (restored as well, not too long ago) be sure to stop and appreciate one of Buffalo's great homes, nearly lost to history, and to neglect. Former owners and current tenants provide some spectacular photos of the home's interior in its heyday- see their link. |
