72 Jewet

Mural by Daniel Glass

Another mural in the Albright-Knox's public art series can be found on several walls of Koch Metal Spinning. The family owned business has been in operation since 1939. Taken for granted, the #AKPublicArt project brings to life walls that, unadorned, might never get a second look.

Coe Place Mural

Mural at Coe Place and Main St.

The mural at the corner of Coe Place and Main  Street is sure to brighten a winter's day. A vision of youth, growth and life, the mural was the product of a collaboration between the Albright-Knox Art Gallery's  public art program and the Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology. The exterior wall of the BCAT was the canvas for the creative energies of muralist Alice Mizrachi and students of the art program.

Albright-Knox Art Gallery

Albright-Knox /  R. Delaunay, Soleil,Tour, Aeroplane (foreground)
Even people unfamiliar with Buffalo attribute a couple of things to our fare city. "It's near Niagara Falls...Annie Defranco is from there, right...oh yeah, you have the Albright-Knox..." And with its new endowment, the ABK is set to expand and become even more important.
The Albright-Knox is our treasure full of treasures. The Beaux Arts building itself, built at the turn of the twentieth century, is the product of two seminal architectural and artistic giants, E.B Green and Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The interior, of course, is home to one of the most spectacular and eclectic collections of artwork in the  country.  From Jacques-Louis David to Louise Bourgeois, the expanse is extraordinary and representational of the great artistic movements of the last two hundred years. Van Gogh, Picasso, Homer, Still, Renior, Pollock, Warhol, Modigliani, Miro are some of the heavy hitters, but the gallery is also home to carefully aquired esoteric masterpieces as well. Take a few hours to explore and find solace amongst some of the world's great art treasures at your doorstep.

Albright Out and About

Spectral Locus

https://www.albrightknox.org/collection/public-art/piece:spectral-locus/
Commingling the influences of Cristo and Spencer Tunick, Amanda Browder brings attention and beauty to  things we might otherwise take for granted. Just as Tunick has brought attention to the  neglected Central Terminal draped in naked Buffalonians, Browder's textile extravaganza has covered the Richmond-Ferry church in a coat of many colors. This spectacular new wardrobe is definitely a treat for the eyes but also speaks for the is church saying,  "I'm still here". Appropriately, the installation is an harbinger of the church's new spiritual life. The building will soon be home to a many faceted visual and performing arts center, as well as some flats.

Of Ice Cream and Pokémon

Another Ice Cream Dude, Pokémon and art
Pokémon Go? 'Nuf said. (Very apparently the Albright Knox is a Pokéstop). But people cannot stop talking about the Ice Ceamcycle ice cream vendors and their Pay it Forward idea. It's all over the news; good news for a change. From our local publications and sites, to the Huffington Post and ABC News, the story of James Karagiannis, a.k.a. "James the Ice Cream Cycle Dude" and his community campaign is a hot story (no pun intended) this week. Karagiannis' idea was  to give kids who don't have extra money, a free ice cream if they will write a thank you note to send to a donor. Simple, special and true to the rep. of the City of Good Neighbors. Check out the links below for more on the story and information on donating at The Ice Cream Dude's website.
