Goodbar

Stairway to the Attic at Mr. Goodbar
Mr. Goodbar has been in existence since 1968 and witnessed the evolution of the Elmwood Strip. With a tradition of dancing and DJs, today's bar continues the legacy as a vibrant live music venue and purveyor of one of the largest selections of draft beer, gourmet and otherwise, in the region. The bar had a huge selection of draft long before the nation's most recent fascination with beer. With two floors, a patio, pool tables and pub grub in environs that have changed little over the years, Goodbar remains a popular gathering spot at Elmwood and Forest Avenues. Little change, other than fine management, works for the woody tavern.

Pasión

Pasión Restaurant
From Cuban to Spanish, South American to Mexican, the influences are made manifest ultimately, deliciously in authentic food. Pasión is what they have for their cuisine, as well as having enjoyable brunches, taco Tuesdays, Salsa lessons and trivia. Pasión, literally and culinarily, fills a space on Elmwood that needed filling...Latin food lovers wanted in this warm spot.

Elvishly Good Stuff

Exceptional Vegan Chocolate

Congratulations to my former colleague a her husband on quitting their day jobs and opening their dream shop. Today was the soft opening for Thinking Elvish Fantasy Chocolate, beautifully realized in the old Tabree restaurant on Elmwood. All of the ingredients for their imaginative and flavor-filled artisian chocolates are organic and fair trade from Peru. They roast their own cocao beans, make their own almond milk, and design their own everything, and the results are truly unique. One of the most delightful things, beside the chocolate flavors, was the cold brew made from the cocao shells after roasting. The flavor was something between an exquisite tea and a fine coffee. It was truly something untasted and unexpected. Best, best wishes to Lacy and Tim Christ and their beautiful kids on a very unique take on chocolates and soon to come ice creams.

Albright-Knox Art Gallery

Albright-Knox /  R. Delaunay, Soleil,Tour, Aeroplane (foreground)
Even people unfamiliar with Buffalo attribute a couple of things to our fare city. "It's near Niagara Falls...Annie Defranco is from there, right...oh yeah, you have the Albright-Knox..." And with its new endowment, the ABK is set to expand and become even more important.
The Albright-Knox is our treasure full of treasures. The Beaux Arts building itself, built at the turn of the twentieth century, is the product of two seminal architectural and artistic giants, E.B Green and Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The interior, of course, is home to one of the most spectacular and eclectic collections of artwork in the  country.  From Jacques-Louis David to Louise Bourgeois, the expanse is extraordinary and representational of the great artistic movements of the last two hundred years. Van Gogh, Picasso, Homer, Still, Renior, Pollock, Warhol, Modigliani, Miro are some of the heavy hitters, but the gallery is also home to carefully aquired esoteric masterpieces as well. Take a few hours to explore and find solace amongst some of the world's great art treasures at your doorstep.

More Art Please

Public Art by Judith Shea
A bronze sculpture by Judith Shea stands in the little triangle of Potomac, Bidwell and Elmwood. Appropriately named Eden, the piece was donated to the City and installed in our little Eden in 2015. Check out the rest of the city's public art collection at the link below.

Hit the Spot- Spot Coffee

Spot Coffee - Elmwood
Feels like fall is near this evening? But remember, summer isn't over until September 21st. We all tend to start freaking out when the sun goes down a bit earlier and the temp drops at night. But plenty of people were enjoying the month of summer we have left on Elmwood tonight. Don't give it up too soon. The Farmer's Almanac is calling for some serious snow for us.

The Lexington Co Op

The Co Op

We used to go to the Co Op when it was really on Lexington- bins and barrels of food stuff and produce all in a tiny turn of the century store front. What a difference 20 years or so make. The Elmwood version is a neighborhood luxury, as it has just about everything, (beer, even) and it's open until 11:00 at night! Coming soon, the second locale on Hertel. This one will be larger and have indoor seating. For Parkside residents, it can't happen soon enough.

Elmwood Village Our 50th Post!

Elmwood Village
Strolling the EV strip on a Friday evening: the sultry, the hot, the hungry and the thirsty cruise this bejeweled rue in search of sustenance, companionship and love. Laughter and conversations float on a warm August breeze teasing summer dresses and cool linen pants. The slow crawl of cars through the Elmwood Village illuminates the faces of those Friday night searchers, strollers and friends in stores and bars and restaurants and cafes. Out there on an August night lies the calm, the thrill, the heart of a summer night. Hey, By the way...tonight is our 50th post! Yay Baffalo Daily Photo!

Thin Man

Balcony patio of Thin Man

Sun, umbrellas, 80 degrees. Staycation for these folks on the balcony at the freshly opened Thin Man Brewery on Elmwood Ave. Not one to let a great space go to waste, Mike Shatzel and company have reclaimed and  improved (balcony patio) this great spot on the strip, much to the delight of aficionados of draft beer and other fine libations. A great place to plot a weekend that has just too many options. For help with that, see Buffalo Vibe's link below. Enjoy.

Caffe Society

Caffe Aroma - languid summer day
We have a mission for you. Find a cafe, a bench, a blanket, someone's lap and sit yourself down. Take a moment to feel the sun upon your face, trade pleasantries with friends, watch a bead of condensation make its way down a cold glass, or just think. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty that is a Buffalo summer day. Because....Do you know what happens in six months? January. Shhhhhh.
